Taurine in Poultry Meat can nourish the heart

Good news coming for you lovers of poultry meat. Researchers from NYU Langone Medical Center found the essential nutrients in meat, dark poultry provides protection against coronary heart disease (CHD), particularly in women with high cholesterol.

The study was published online in the European Journal of Nutrition. The scientists evaluated the effects of taurine. This is one of the natural nutrients and are usually found in dark meats such as turkey and chicken, as well as in other foods such as some types of fish and shellfish.

The findings indicate that a high intake of taurine are associated with lower risk of suffering from CHD, especially in women with high total cholesterol levels. But the same relationship is not seen in women with low cholesterol levels.

"There is little information available about taurine," said lead researcher Yu Chen, PhD, MPH, professor of epidemiology at the NYU School of Medicine.

Yu Chen said, although there are several animal studies showing the benefits of taurine for heart disease, but he claims this finding as the first prospective study published to see the effect of serum taurine against CHD in humans.

"These findings are very interesting. Taurine is a naturally occurring seems to have a significant protective effect in women with high cholesterol," he said.

Coronary heart disease is a major killer in men and women, nearly one in five deaths caused by CHD. The disease is caused by the buildup of plaque in heart arteries. Many epidemiological studies provide evidence that dietary intake as a major factor in the prevention of CHD.

In his research, Dr. Chen and his team used data and samples from the NYU Women Health Study. Research involving more than 14,000 women (34-65 years), between the years 1985-1991 in a breast cancer screening center in New York City. Study participants who registered and recorded by the researcher to do related medical and lifestyle information.

Research funded by the American Heart Association (AHA). The researchers measured levels of taurine in serum samples collected in 1985 - before the onset of heart disease - for the 223 participants who developed or died of CHD during the study follow-up period between the years 1986-2006. The researchers then compared the levels of taurine in the blood of participants who developed CHD with serum samples of taurine on the 223 participants with no history of heart disease.

The analysis revealed that serum taurine does not provide protection to the overall development of CHD. However, among women with high cholesterol, those with high levels of serum taurine 60 percent lower risk of heart disease or died of CHD, than women with lower levels of taurine.

"Its quite interesting. If these findings can be accepted, one day we may be able to suggest someone with high cholesterol to eat more meat, poultry, particularly the dark meat," the researchers said.

Dr Chen explained that women volunteers are involved in the research of nearly 80 percent of the Caucasian race. Therefore, the findings may not provide the same benefits to men or other races. But Chen said that the future research needs to be done to analyze the effect of poultry against men or other races.

Chen also added, not yet known whether taurine content contained in food products and beverages have the same effect. "We just learned that taurine comes from natural sources. Product added to foods or beverages that taurine may have a higher content, as well as other ingredients like caffeine and ginseng, which can lead to coronary heart disease risk," he concluded.

Whats in a name

Whats in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
- Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet

When parents named their children, the name should have a meaning, for the sake of their childrens life. Why? Because the names thatve been given to us, are considered to be our parentss prays and hopes for us. Not just only gave such a beautiful name, but it should have a useful meaning.

When I named my son Michael, it was for honouring St. Michael the Archangel, and its also a Christian baptise name for him. Also for my elder daughter, Devie, which has the meaning of Goddess. So, both my children, which are my very precious treasures, are my Goddess and Angel.

The full name of my children were same on their initial, just what my wife asked me when she was carrying our 2nd child. But the sum of the whole letters of alphabet (A=1 & Z=26) on their names were different. I used numerology on giving their name. #9 for Devie, and #4 for Michael, were the summary of their full names.

You may believe it or not, I knew 2 women named Prihartini and Prihartanti. In Javanese language Prihartini and Prihartanti, in which the same as prihatin means miserable. And even they both were a carrier woman, one got a late married (above aged 35 years old). They both were never showed a free and happy smile, came from their face.

They both are my aunts. Another similiar things are, they both like to be praised, and both of them were never laugh freely, seemed like they both carried a heavy weight on their shoulder.

Weird Name of a City and a Village

Fucking, Austria

A small village in Ober Österreichische, or Upper Austria was named after an Austrian 6th century nobleman named Focko. In German language, Fucking means the place of Fockos people. The village has become famous for the last couple of years, due to its name meaning in English.

Moron, Haiti

A small town in Grande Anse, Haiti, 7 miles from Caribbean Sea, which is also 10 miles from the big city of Jérémie, Haiti. Although Moron means idiot in English, but in Kreyòl ayisyen, Haitian local language, embesil means idiot.

What will happen then, if a man from Fucking, Austria met a woman from Moron, Haiti, and they both felt in love?

Of course they both would get married soon! ..lol.. I guess thats a very bad joke! And very very stupid question is to ask this kind of question. What would they call their children? ..lol..

Mistakes Often Do When Drinking Drugs

Recent research states that most people take prescription drugs without reading the warning labels on the drug packaging. Errors in medication should be avoided to make treatment more effective and safer.

Here are 3 of the most common medication errors person does when taking the drug, as reported by prevention, Wednesday (11/07/2012), among others:

1. The dose is too much

The most frequent mistake is to take the medication dosage that is too much. This does not make you recover faster but it will lead to other severe health problems. Even the use of medications such as Tylenol can cause organ damage.

2. Drinking alcohol after taking medication

Drinking alcoholic beverages shortly after taking the drug is very dangerous because it can be mixed in the digestive system. Even certain antibiotics are mixed with alcohol can cause headaches, nausea and heart beat faster.

3. Skipping doses

If the doctor says to take medication three times a day, then obey the rules and do not miss a dose. Too little medication dosage can reduce the effectiveness of the drug. In addition, if you miss a dose of antibiotics, can make the bacteria and viruses that cause disease become resistant.

Here are some things you need to consider when taking the drug to avoid medication errors such as:

1. Schedule a regular time each day to take medication, especially if the medication you take more than one type.

2. Learn bold words contained in drug labels carefully. It usually contains important information that you need.

3. Keep prescription medications you take. It is useful for you and your doctor to track the consumption of drugs previously used if you have a history of certain diseases.

Here are some things to consider in taking medication:

A. Period Drink

Here it mean when sick and had to take medication three times a day it should not take the medicine at will. We often drink if remember it, or drink it is not clear when and like to forget. Mean 3 x 1 tablet a day meant to take his medication once every 8 hours, 2 x 1 tablet if it means 12 hours at a time. Because in one day was 24 hours so divided the number of times drinking. So even if we take the medicine three times a day but it is not appropriate periods or even stretch it levels the medicine will not be effective.

B. Before or After Eating meals

"It may be taken anytime" But on the other hand people are wondering, what is the drug is safe to drink without eating beforehand. Would not this will affect the stomach and thousands of other questions that arise minds about the possible interaction between drugs and food.

Many people think that an important remedy I have a drink it was not that simple. Some drugs there are absorbsinya good if your stomach is empty or filled stomach.

Actually how food can affect the action of drugs? The drug will be administered orally through the digestive tract first. Therefore, the work of the drug in the human body could have been influenced by the food or drink is consumed. The mechanism may occur through inhibition of absorption of the drug or by affecting the enzyme activity in the gastrointestinal tract or liver enzymes.

There are two possible outcomes of drug and food interactions. The first food and drug interactions may reduce or even eliminate benefits or medicinal benefits and the latter can increase the side effects or the effects of the drug itself.

We recommend that you carefully read the manufacturers instructions, if you say drunk before meals, it means take medicine on an empty stomach (1/2 to 1 hour before eating). Conversely, if a written drunk after meals, when stomach filled with meaning drunk food (finish eating until ½ hour after meals) and there are more drugs taken during meals.

C. The right dose

That is according the recommended dose, eg if the drug can be in the form of the solution (syrup) in order to drink a teaspoon teaspoon means not existing in our homes. Common small spoon in Indonesia is only about 3ml, while the dose that is right for one teaspoon is 5 mL. Usually the drug is no spoon syrup medicine (tsp) which is equal to 1 tsp 5 mL.

For large spoon (tablespoon) in our house probably only about 7 mL, while the right dosage to one tablespoon is 15 mL.

So if the drug is not given the right dose (according to) the administered dose was also not appropriate, it could be less or excessive doses that will ultimately prove fatal.

Mosquito Repellent Plants

Disturbed by the presence of mosquitoes? Now, you do not have to bother spraying insecticide that is not necessarily safe. Just usea mosquito repellent plants.

Later, an outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) re-emerged in some areas. DHF is an acute infectious disease caused by dengue virus mainly affects children. The signs include sudden high fever, with bleeding manifestations and tendencies cause shock and death. Erad ication of mosquitoes usually by using synthetic insecticides as insect poison, whether it be insect repellent sprays, mosquito coils, as well as a topical anti-mosquito drugs, which of course contains chemical compounds.

In addition to insect repellent is sold, there are also anti-mosquito plants safer. Some of these plants zodia, geranium, lavender, and lemongrass fragrance. Want to know what plants like that?

Geranium
If zodia more widely planted in pots, then planted an outdoor common geranium, though how to use the same, ie, by rocking the leaf blade, or blown by the wind or a fan, then out a distinctive fragrance (mildly unpleasant). The smell comes from the content of which is owned geranium, citronella ie substances. Well, heres a citronella to repel mosquitoes.

Plant geraniums (Pelargonium citrosa) grow as a group, many puppies. Green leaves, shaped anchor (like anchors), serrated leaf edges. The trunk contains a lot of water. Normally seedlings propagated by using cuttings.

Geranium plants have at least three variants, namely Citrosa mosquito fighter, Cirosa queen of lemon, and Citrosa lady diana. Grows wild in the surrounding fields and used by village people. The leaves are taken and inserted between the clothes in the cupboard. Usefulness to repel mosquitoes and moths, also gives a distinctive aroma. Now, the plant is again hunted people, especially in an age where the pattern of life "back to nature" increasingly trendy.

LAVENDER
The appearance is very attractive lavender flowers. The flowers are small purple. This flower scent issue. This flower is often rubbed into the body to avoid mosquito bites. Propagation of plants lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) usually by means of seeds. The seeds are sown old and healthy. When youve grown, were transferred to polybags. When the height reaches 15-20 cm, can be moved into a pot or planted in the yard.

The existence of plant lavender essential oil distiller invited to distill the flowers. Lavender oil is often used as aromatherapy. In fact, in some houses, lavender oil is placed in the living room

Lemongrass Scented (Serai WANGI)
During this time, lemongrass fragrance used for mixing spices and medicinal materials. However, it was especially fragrant lemongrass stalks and leaves can also be used as a mosquito repellent. Yes, the article of this fragrant lemongrass plants contain substances such as geraniol, metilheptenon, terpenes, terpene, terpene alcohols, organic acids, and especially is citronellal. Citronellal substance has toxic properties of the contact. As a contact poison, it can cause death from loss of fluids continuously so that the mosquito body hydrated.

In simple we can make a fragrant lemongrass extract. How, to provide 1 kg of leaves and stems of fragrant lemongrass, then wash and drain until dry. Enter in a blender, then puree. Enter the result blenderan into 250 ml of water, then soak overnight. After that, strain and put into the bottle, then dilute with aquades.
To use, pour the fragrant lemongrass extract into the sprayer, then spray into a place where mosquitoes hide.

Plant fragrant lemon grass (Cymbopogon nardus) growing in groups with a high of about 50-100 cm. Single leaf frayed, up to 1 meter long, 1.5 cm wide, the bottom a bit rough, leaves the bone alignment. No woody stems, ribbed, short ribs, and white. Root fibers.

Propagation is done by splitting cuttings saplings. Cuttings obtained by breaking large clumps but not segmented. Poting partial leaf cuttings or subtract up to 3-5 cm from the leaf midrib. Some roots are also reduced, and leave about 2.5 cm below the neck root. After that, planted in the yard.

Zodia
People used to rub the skin with Papua certain leaves before entering the forest. The point to be protected from the attacks of insects, especially mosquitoes. The leaves are from plants called zodia (Evodia suaveolens). We know, this zodia native plants originating from Papua Indonesia.

Why do mosquitoes afraid of zodia? Zodia plants contain substances including family Rutaceae.Ia evodiamine and rutaecarpine. According to the Research Institute for Spices and Medicinal Plants (IMACRI), oil is distilled from the leaves contain linalool zodia 46 percent and apinene
13.26 percent. Well, linalool is what serves as a mosquito repellent. According to Agus Kardinan (2004), leaf zodia able to dispel mosquitoes for 6 hours, to expel the power (power protection) by more than 70 percent. In addition to effectively repel mosquitoes, scientists recently discovered other benefits of zodia, such as a headache remedy, dysentery, and cancer cell killer. The flowers can be used as a liniment to treat colds.

Zodia will release the scent when the leaves rub together. Place the plant in the vicinity of the wind into the room, could also be in a certain corner, then blow with a fan. The aroma is quite fragrant too will come out. Nevertheless, we still must be vigilant. Had zodia plants placed in the narrow room and the little air circulation, can-can people who are on it too dizzy or drunk.

Typically, these plants were planted in pots, and used as indoor plants (indoor plant). However, both can also be directly planted in the yard. In fact, it could provide its own coolness. Higher plants if left free in the field can reach 200 cm. The leaves are beautiful, slightly yellowish green, long flat but flexible, and soothing the eye that sees.

Plants propagated zodia also quite easy, really, either through branch cuttings and seeds. When it is flowering and seed, seed zodia will fall and grow around it. Its just a phase of growth requires individual attention. If direct sun, might even die. Conversely, when less sunlight is not exactly healthy growth. These plants will thrive when it is developed in areas that are pretty cool.

What Are You Laughing At Son

My 4 and half years old son was often laughed by himself without unusual cause. Thats made me wonder, what was happen with his strange attitude? I still didnt get it, why was he acted like that? Sometimes, he laughed loudly, and I must told him to stop laughing. Just like when I tickled his older sister, and he laughed loudly when my daughter threw my hand away. Despite of being as a stress release, what is laugh exactly?

Laugh, a complex reflex of the muscles of respiration, face and throat. It usually involves a series of involuntary spasmodic contractions of abdominal muscles, accompanied by contractions of cheek muscles (smile) and semiarticulate sounds. The response may undergo modification in that facial expressions, or vocalizations are altered, or absent, hence the expressions silent laughter, or sardonic laughter.

The essence of laughter may be observed in many other species, and not just peculiar to man, such as crow, gull, hyena, jackass, monkey and ape. It has been learned that involuntary laughter may be produced by mild anesthetics such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), or may be the result of various forms of accident, or disease in the brain.

One of these neurological disorders (pseudobulbar palsy) is known as laughing sickness. A person with this disorder may laugh but feel sad, or he may cry but feel happy. The most common form of psychosis, schizophrenia, often includes involuntary mirthless laughter.

There is less agreement about what is laughable. Beyond tickling, laughter depends for the most part on learning. In man, normal laughter first occurs in the early months of life, as early as 12 weeks, or smiling at birth. D. H. Monro lists 4 main classes:

  1. Feelings of superiority, the attempt to aggrandize ones self.
  2. Incongruity, a response to the novel or bizarre.
  3. Release from restraint, as with the tendency to laugh after relief of frustration or pain.
  4. Ambivalence, the giggle, in situations of embarrassment, where no clear course of action is perceived.

Monros classification is probably incomplete, and Florence Justin, another student of this field, lists more categories:

  • Surprise and defeated expectation.
  • Joy, pleasure, and play.
  • Social stimulation.

Moreover, she cities laughter as a possible defense mechanism, as a means to subconscious gratification, and as an energetic mechanism. Thats why we feel better after laughing. I hope my son acts are just normal laughter, in quest for more attentions and affections.

Constipation Symptoms The Cause That You Should Know

If you have identified the cause of constipation, because you can prevent it, then maybe you do not have to know the cause of constipation. Even so, this information may be able to help the people closest to you to recognize it. Every person has varies frequency of bowel movements. Some people defecate up to three times a day, others may just three times a week. It is normal, as long as you feel comfortable and not feel difficulty during defecation.

If your bowel movement less than three times a week, the stomach is bloated and difficult to remove dirt, youve experienced a condition called constipation. Frequency of bowel movements, is not necessarily a reference. You may experience constipation, although bowel movements every day, but your stools is hard and you have to take pains to remove it.

Constipation symptoms may include abdominal pain and bloating. Part of the dirt that may rip mucous membrane of the anus, especially in children, causing bleeding in the rectum. Constipation is a common complaint, an estimated 1 in 10 people often suffer from constipation. Frequency increases with age and became more common in the age group above 60 years. This is because the elderly have a reduction in the power of the intestinal muscles and tend to take drugs that have constipation side effects.

Due to hormonal factors, constipation is also more common in adult women than adult men. Constipation is a fairly common complaint among pregnant women. Constipation is rare in infants. Babies who are breast-feeding, could not defecate during 7 days without causing interference.

Causes of constipation

Constipation is not a disease, but a symptom or condition which has many causes, such as:
  • Unhealthy lifestyle. The most common cause, which is usually a combination of a lack of fluid intake, lack of fiber in the diet, lack of movement that stimulates bowel movements.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome. People with this syndrome experience alternating constipation and diarrhea.
  • Medicines. Constipation can be a side effect of diarrhea drug. Other medicines that can cause constipation are antidepressants, anticholinergics, antacids, psychotropic drugs, codeine and high blood pressure medications.
  • Imbalance of electrolytes. Potassium deficiency (hypokalemia) and excess calcium (hypercalcemia).
  • Blockage by disease. diverticulitis, colon polyps, fissures and anal abscesses, hemorrhoids, Crohns disease, colorectal cancer.
  • Blockage by neurological disorders, such as diabetes, Parkinsons, multiple sclerosis.
  • Hormonal disorders: such as an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), pregnancy.

Constipation sign & symptoms

Symptoms and signs will be different between one to another, due to diet, hormones, lifestyle and colon shape every person is different, but usually the symptoms and signs are commonly found in most or sometimes some sufferers are as follows:
  1. Stomach fullness, full, and even feels stiff because of the pile of feces (iffeces was piled about 1 week or more, the patient stomach may look like a pregnant).
  2. Stool becomes hard, hot, darker, fewer in number than normal (less than 30 grams), and can even form a small round object when it is severe.
  3. When defecating, fecess difficult to remove or discarded, sometimes have to push or squeeze the stomach first in order to pull out it (even to having hemorrhoids and cold sweats).
  4. Anus feels full, and like something is blocked accompanied by pain from rubbing against the heat and hard stools.
  5. Fart frequency increases with foul smell more than usual (and sometimes the patient will have difficulty or not at all able to fart).
  6. Decreasing the frequency of bowel movements, and increased bowel transit time (usually 3 bowel movements a day or more).
  7. Sometimes experience nausea and even vomiting if it is severe.
  8. Back pain when the feces that accumulate quite a lot.
  9. Bad breath.
As for the psychological symptoms that can occur in people with constipation include:
  • Less confident
  • More a loner or keep away from people around.
  • Still feel hungry, but when eat, will be full faster (especially when pregnant, it will feel heartburn) because the space in the stomach is reduced.
  • Emotion is increasing rapidly.
  • Often feels palpitations, so easily lead to emotional stress. Ultimately vulnerable headache or even fever.
  • The body does not fit, uncomfortable, lethargic, tired, and felt heavy so lazy to do something, sometimes even frequent sleepiness.
  • Decreasing the spirit through the activities
  • Impaired daily activities, because the body feels overburdened resulting in decreased work quality and productivity.
  • Can decrease appetite.

Tea vs Cancer

Tea
Tea
Image is courtesy of Sentra Informasi IPTEK

Who are in this world who do not know tea? Tea is popular beverages consumed around the world. Black tea is the most common tea beverage consumed in the world, about 75% of the worlds tea consumption.

When I think about tea, I remember to my friend, lets called him Andy, who once made a crossword puzzle game, which in Bahasa Indonesia is known as teka teki silang, or TTS. But, he changed the TTS to tanya tanya saja, which means in English as just asking, a humour crossword puzzle game.

Andy made a question which had an answer of five empty boxes, or five letters answer. The question was, when translated in English as: What is the traditional drink of Indonesian people? My other friends, including me were so hard to find the answer. All of my friends answers were claimed by Andy as the wrong answer.

You know what? Andy said that the correct answer is five letters word (which actually the combination of two words) of esteh. The ridiculous answer that made everybody laugh including me, es teh, which in English means tea ice, is not only a common drink for most Indonesian people, but also for all the people around the world.

The data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health is mentioned that, cancer prevalence in Indonesia, in 2012, has reached 4.3 in every 1,000 people. If the Indonesian population is 251,160,124 (CIA Factbook, July 2013 est.), it means that there are more than 1,079,988 cancer patients, in Indonesia, in 2013.

Tea (Camellia sinensis [L.] Kuntze), is known by many common names, such as, enteh (Sundanese), pu erh cha (Chinese), theler(France), teestrauch (German), te (Italy), cha da India (Portugal). Tea is believed to be originated from the north of India (Camellia sinensis var. assamica), and South China (Camellia sinensis var. sinensis).

The varieties of tea, such as, black tea, green tea, oolong tea, white tea, and etc, are all harvested from the species of Camellia sinensis [L.] Kuntze, but are processed in different levels of oxidation. Black tea is produced when tea leaves are wilted, bruised, rolled, and fully oxidized. Green tea is made from unwilted leaves that are not oxidized. Oolong tea is made from wilted, bruised, and partially oxidized leaves, creating an intermediate kind of tea. White tea is made from young leaves, or growth buds that have undergone minimal oxidation.

Tea and Cancer Prevention

Tea contains polyphenol compounds, particularly catechins, which are antioxidants and whose biological activities may be relevant to cancer prevention. Catechins are thought to be responsible for the health benefits, that have traditionally been attributed to tea, especially green tea. That is why most studies of tea and cancer prevention have focused on green tea. Black tea, although not as well studied as green tea, has also shown cancer preventive effects, in laboratory models.

Polyphenols in green tea include, Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), Epigallocatechin (EGC), Epicatechin-3-gallate (ECG), and Epicatechin (EC). But, the most active, and abundant catechin, in green tea is EGCG. Meanwhile, EGCG and ECG have substantial free radical scavenging activity, and may protect cells from DNA damage, caused by reactive oxygen species. Researchers also believe that, polyphenols help kill cancerous cells, and stop them from growing.

Black tea contains much lower concentrations of catechins than green tea. Oolong tea contains a mixture of simple polyphenols, such as catechins, and complex polyphenols. White and green tea contain similar amounts of EGCG, but different amounts of other polyphenols.

Most animal studies on tea have been found to inhibit tumorigenesis at different organ sites, including the skin, lung, oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, pancreas, and mammary gland. But, the results of human studies, both epidemiologic, and clinical studies have been inconclusive.

The inconsistencies in study findings regarding, tea and cancer risk, may be due to variability in tea preparation, tea consumption, the bioavailability of tea compounds (the amounts that can be absorbed by the body), lifestyle differences, and individual genetic differences. That is why, the National Cancer Institute does not recommend for, or against the use of tea, to reduce the risk of any type of cancer.

Several Human Clinical Studies on Cancer

Breast Cancer

A pooled analysis of two prospective cohort studies among 35,004 Japanese women, found that green tea intake was not associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. (Suzuki Y, et al. 2004)

Recent cross sectional study among 191 healthy Japanese American women, suggested that intake of green tea may modify estrogen metabolism, and reduce the risk of breast cancer. Polyphenols in green tea can influence enzymes that metabolize estrogens, known causal factors in breast cancer etiology. (Fuhrman BJ, et al. 2013)

Colorectal Cancer

A prospective cohort study among 58,279 men, and 62,573 women aged 55-69 years, in Netherlands, failed to reveal a protective effect of tea consumption, on the risk of three cancer types studied (colorectal, lung, and breast cancers). (Goldbohm RA, et al. 1996)

A cohort study among 69,710 Chinese women, aged 40 to 70 years, which followed up six years later, suggested that regular consumption of green tea may reduce colorectal cancer risk in women. (Yang G, et al. 2007)

A prospective cohort study of diet and cancer involving more than 60,000 men and women, in Singapore, found that the intake of black tea was not associated with risk of colorectal cancer. (Sun CL, et al. 2007)

Digestive Tract Cancer

A comparative case referent study of 21,128 people aged 40 years and over, in Nagoya, Japan, suggested the potential for protective effect against site specific digestive tract cancer, by consumption of green tea and coffee. (Inoue M, et al. 1998)

A large population based prospective cohort study among 69,310 women, and 1,255 cases of digestive system cancers (stomach, esophagus, colorectal, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder/bile duct cancers) were followed up for 11 years since 2000 until 2011. The study found that regular tea intake, mostly green tea, was associated with reduced risk of all digestive system cancers combined, and women who consumed ≥150 g tea/month (2-3 cups/day) had a 21% reduced risk of digestive system cancers combined. The study concluded that tea consumption was associated with reduced risk of colorectal, stomach, and esophageal cancers, in Chinese women. (Nechuta S, et al. 2012)

Gastric Cancer

A population based, prospective cohort study among 11,902 men, and 14,409 women, aged 40 years or older, in Miyagi Prefecture, in northern Japan, found no association between green tea consumption, and the risk of gastric cancer. (Tsubono Y, et al. 2001)

Follow up study from a pooled analysis of six cohort studies, among 219,080 subjects, in 3,577 cases of gastric cancer, found that green tea may decrease the risk of distal gastric cancer in women. Compared with those drinking less than 1 cup/day, no significant risk reduction for gastric cancer was observed, with increased green tea consumption in men. However, in women, a significantly decreased risk was observed, for those with consumption of 5 cups, or more in a day. (Inoue M, et al. 2009)

Ovarian Cancer

An Australian population based, case control study (1,368 cases and 1,416 controls), found that women who drink green tea, have a lower risk of ovarian cancer, and the study supported for the hypothesis that, tea consumption reduces the risk of ovarian cancer. (Nagle CM, et al. 2010)

Stomach Cancer

A study based on 157 incident cases, and 285 people aged 40-79 years, found no inverse association between green tea consumption and the risk of stomach cancer. (Hoshiyama Y, et al. 2004)

Conclusion:
Despite of the National Cancer Institute recommendation, drinking different types of tea beverages will have different effects in any person. My living grandfather, who aged 89 years old, is always drinking black tea without sugar, twice a day, in the morning and afternoon.

Note:

The main reason why I wrote this article, is because couple of days ago, an anonymous spammer wrote comments (twice) with a link promotion, which lead to an article about green tea. The article claimed a fact that, ...people in green tea consuming countries mainly Japan, and China have very low rates of cancer.....

But, I disagree with the article, because based on Globocan 2008 data, Japan was in the top 46 of the highest cancer rate in men, with the ASR of 247.3 per 100,000 people. China was not listed in the top 50 of Globocan 2008 data. But, report from Chen W, et al. 2013, the crude incidence rate, in Chinese cancer registration areas, in 2009, was 285.91 per 100,000 people. Meanwhile, a news in August 2010, Chen Zhu, minister of Chinas Ministry of Health said that, there were about 2.6 million people in China, who suffered cancer annually, in which 1.8 million patients died.

Dark chocolate may lower blood pressure

There may be good news for people looking for an excuse to munch on a couple of squares of chocolate after a review showed the treat could reduce blood pressure.

An analysis of 20 studies showed that eating dark chocolate daily resulted in a slight reduction in blood pressure.

The Cochrane Groups report said chemicals in cocoa, chocolates key ingredient, relaxed blood vessels.

However, there are healthier ways of lowering blood pressure.

The theory is that cocoa contains flavanols which produce a chemical in the body called nitric oxide. This relaxes blood vessels making it easier for blood to pass through them, lowering the blood pressure.

The 100g of chocolate that had to be consumed daily in a number of the studies would also come with 500 calories - thats a quarter of a womans recommended daily intake”

Victoria Taylor British Heart Foundation

However, studies have thrown up mixed results. The Cochrane analysis combined previous studies to see if there was really an effect.

There was a huge range in the amount of cocoa consumed, from 3g to 105g a day, by each participant. However, the overall picture was a small reduction in blood pressure.

A systolic blood pressure under 120mmHg (millimetres of mercury) is considered normal. Cocoa resulted in a 2-3mmHg reduction in blood pressure. However, the length of the trials was only two weeks so the longer term effects are unknown.

Lead researcher Karin Ried, from the National Institute of Integrative Medicine in Melbourne, Australia, said: "Although we dont yet have evidence for any sustained decrease in blood pressure, the small reduction we saw over the short term might complement other treatment options and might contribute to reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease."

High blood pressure is both common and deadly. It has been linked to 54% of strokes worldwide and 47% of cases of coronary heart disease.

However, chocolate packs plenty of fat and sugar as well as cocoa so is not the ideal way of lowering blood pressure.
Dark or milk?

There has also been a warning in the Lancet medical journal that dark chocolate may contain fewer flavanols than you might think. Dark chocolate contains a higher cocoa count than milk chocolate so should contain more flavanols, however, they can also be removed as they have a bitter taste.

Victoria Taylor, of the British Heart Foundation, said: "Its difficult to tell exactly what sort of quantities of flavanol-rich cocoa would be needed to observe a beneficial effect and the best way for people to obtain it.

"With most of the studies carried out over a short period of time its also not possible to know for sure whether the benefits could be sustained in the long term. The 100g of chocolate that had to be consumed daily in a number of the studies would also come with 500 calories - thats a quarter of a womans recommended daily intake.

"Beans, apricots, blackberries and apples also contain flavanols and, while containing lower amounts than in cocoa, they wont come with the unhealthy extras found in chocolate."

Nutritious Food for the Brain

Of various foods and beverages that is around us, including our good for brain health. Well, here are a list of 10 healthy foods that are proven to improve the overall health of our brain. I suggest taking it to improve the performance of your brain.

1.Tiram / Shellfish
Who sich a ga like this food? :) Researchers have shown that oysters are very beneficial for your brain health.

Oysters contain many minerals, zinc, and iron which helps our brain to stay sharp and improve the ability to recall information easily.

Lack of zinc and iron lead to poor concentration, memory lapses, and of course a variety of diseases throughout the body.

2. Green Tea
Would you like to drink coffee on a sunny morning? try switching to a warm cup of tea. Green tea or black tea is very beneficial for the brain because it contains catechins.

Berry also contain fisetin and flavenoid very good for improving memory. and allows us easy to remember past events

4. Whole Grains / Cereals
Is brown rice, oatmeal, whole grain breads, wheat, etc.. These foods work to increase blood flow to the brain, which means very supportive of quality and quantity of brain function. These grains contain lots of vitamin B6, which is filled with thiamine. Thiamine is great for anyone who seeks to improve memory. Scientific research has shown that memory loss increases dramatically at the time agan reaches the end of the 60s or early 70s, eating whole grains is good for the gan when age was older.

5. Eggs
As we get older, our brains begin to shrink because of something called brain atrophy. However, we can fight this natural process by regularly consuming eggs. This is because eggs contain lots of vitamin B12 and lecithin. Vitamin B12 helpful against brain shrinkage, which is often seen in Alzheimers disease. Eggs, although it is very unhealthy if agan eat too much, because it is full of essential fatty acids. Egg yolk, although very high cholesterol, choline is also high, which is the substance of the brain cell builder. Choline may help improve memory agan. But do not most of the well, just 1-2 eggs a day.

6. Curry / Spices
Spices are very diverse and not limited to the coriander, turmeric, pepper, chili powder, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, kelabet, aniseed, bay leaves Koja, and cloves. Spices are very useful to keep the brain fresh. As the main ingredient of curry powder, curcumin is full of antioxidants that help fight brain aging and maintain cognitive function as you get older. Antioxidants also fight free radical damage that can occur in the brain and body. Free radicals can cause inflammation and other diseases in the body. Kari is not only good for the brain, can also fight diabetes and heart disease.

7. Nuts and Seeds
Looking for a snack that has everything good for the brain? Is a snack of nuts and seeds. Such as peanuts, hazelnuts, cashews, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and other types of nuts or seeds that you can think of, good for your brain. Nuts and seeds are full of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, as well as folate, vitamin E, and vitamin B6. All of these nutrients allows gan to think more clearly. They also help agan think more positively, because the Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids work as natural antidepressants. Some seeds and nuts are also full of thiamine and magnesium, which is good for memory and cognitive functions of the brain.

8. Leafy Green Vegetables / Vegetables Green
Green leafy vegetables such as cabbage, katuk, spinach, etc., is very good for the brain of children and adults. These vegetables are very helpful when it comes time to remember old information and processes such as agan just learned yesterday. This is because these foods are full of vitamins B6, B12, and folate, which is an important compound in the brain needed to break down levels of homocysteine, which can lead to forgetfulness and even Alzheimers disease. These vegetables contain iron which is often high. So the kids get used to eating greens gan!

9. Fish
Fish is very beneficial to overall health agan, especially for your brain. Fish is full of Omega-3, which is a fatty acid that is very beneficial to the body in various aspects. Eating one serving of fish a week can greatly reduce the chance of getting Alzheimers disease. These fatty acids help with brain function because they coat the neurons which sometimes has a rigid layer of fatty acids due to the high content of cholesterol and saturated fat in the body. Omega-3 will coat the neurons with good fats, which allows them to move easily throughout the brain. Omega-3 also provides more oxygen to the brain, and allows one to store new information while still remembering the old information. The best fish to eat for brain health are salmon, tuna, and herring.

10. Chocolate
While dressing you drink coffee with hot chocolate drink in a day, in addition to delicious, chocolate is very nourishing to the brain. Scientists have proved that the content of antioxidants that are found only in two or three tablespoons of cocoa powder is more powerful than antioxidants found in other foods, such as green tea or red wine. The main antioxidants found in cocoa, which is known as flavonols, it is important to help increase blood flow to the brain.
